Two suspected car theft victims died after police chase in Muskogee

Two suspects died after what started as a chase by the Muskogee police.

Authorities said they responded to an attempted car theft around 3 pm on Sunday, at block 2200 on North 24th Street West. The car theft was unsuccessful.

After the initial call for the car theft, a truck was reported to have been stolen in the same area as the original theft. Muskogee officers located the truck and chased the vehicle.

The officers chased the vehicle and the suspects inside near the intersection of North 24th Street West and US Highway 62. The vehicle sank and the suspects fled on foot at block 700 on North 18th Street.

Police and suspects exchanged fire during the chase. One of the suspects was shot and killed while the second suspect escaped to a wooded area.

According to Muskogee police, when police approached the second suspect, the department said the unidentified suspect shot and killed himself.

The suspects have not been identified as the Muskogee police are continuing their investigation.
