Two people arrested on gun charges outside the White House; No danger to the president – NBC4 Washington

Two people, one of whom said they were there to meet with the president, approached US Secret Service officials outside the White House on Saturday and were arrested after admitting they had weapons, according to the Metropolitan Police Department and the Secret Service .

The Secret Service said that “during the course of the meeting and the subsequent arrests, the individuals posed no immediate danger to anyone protected by the Secret Service”.

At approximately 5:24 pm, police said a man and a woman approached Secret Service officials “on their own” outside a secure vehicle checkpoint at the White House complex, past the more pedestrian crossing. west of 15th Street on Pennsylvania Avenue NW.

One person said that “they were there to meet the President of the United States and had a letter to deliver to him,” said the police.

“One of the individuals revealed possession of a weapon and was arrested immediately, and the second revealed the location of an additional weapon in a nearby vehicle,” said a Secret Service spokesman.

After finding the vehicle, the Secret Service said its officers “took possession of the weapon”.

The man, who was not identified, was arrested for possession of a lead weapon.

Sylvia Hall, 66, was arrested for possession of an unlicensed pistol, possession of an unregistered firearm and possession of unregistered ammunition.
