Two more people die from COVID-19 as Santa Barbara County increases case count to 16k +

The Santa Barbara County Department of Public Health announced on Saturday that two more community members died from COVID-19, increasing the death toll in the county to 153.

According to the health department, both people were over 70 and had underlying health problems, with one death being associated with an outbreak in a residential setting.

County health officials also said the deceased lived in areas of the city of Santa Barbara and unincorporated areas of Mission Canyon, as well as in the city of Lompoc and in the communities of Mission Hills and Vandenberg Village.

Health officials in Santa Barbara County reported 426 new cases of the virus, bringing the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 to 16,083 on Saturday afternoon.

The public health department said 14,766 people have recovered from the virus so far, including members of the community and those imprisoned in county prisons. Authorities said 26 patients are recovering in an intensive care unit.

Another 726 cases are listed as a “pending” location.

County health officials said 835 county health workers tested positive for COVID-19.
