two more Gamecocks win All-SEC honors

Two South Carolina football players were named All-SEC by the Associated Press.

Earlier this week, the 14 league coaches voted for the SEC’s first, second and first team, with five Gamecocks gaining recognition from all conferences. On Wednesday, the Associated Press voted for their All-SEC teams, and two more South Carolina football players found their names among the league’s best players.

Kevin Harris, the SEC’s regular season run leader, received first team honors at all conferences after running 1,138 yards and 15 points. Harris averaged 113.8 yards per game and found the end zone in all but two competitions.

Harris’ best performance came in a loss to Ole Miss, where he accumulated 243 yards and a record five running touchdowns. It was one of two more than 200-yard runs in the second year, as he ended the year with a 210-yard blast against Kentucky.

He became the first Gamecock in the program’s history to spearhead the Southeast Conference in a hurry and established a 6.2-yard better school by average transport in the process. It was nice to see Harris get the nod from the main team after being despised by the coaches as a starter and being left out of Doak Walker’s list of semifinalists.

Kingsley “JJ” Enagbare was also honored, earning second team honors. The junior pass rusher totaled six sacks in the year, good for second place in the league. He did this despite having lost the team’s last two games due to an injury.

In eight matches, the defensive end recorded 30 tackles, seven tackles behind the scrimmage line and a league leader with three forced fumbles. Enagbare is considered one of the 100 best candidates by Pro Football Focus for the next NFL Draft, although he has not yet announced a decision on his future.
