Two more deaths at Oak Hill Manor amid a record number of positive COVID-19 tests in a single day

TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY – The Tompkins County Department of Health has announced two additional COVID-19 deaths from the Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home outbreak, as well as the largest number of single-day positive tests reported to date.

The Oak Hill Manor outbreak has claimed 14 lives, making up the vast majority of deaths (21 in total) in Tompkins County by COVID-19 since the pandemic began. Despite the outbreak, the New York State Department of Health, which handles contact tracking in nursing homes and containing outbreaks, found no protocol violations at home. The initial outbreak at the home included 39 cases among residents and 13 among employees.

Tompkins County also reported 62 new cases, the largest single day of positive coronavirus tests since the pandemic began in March. There are 17 people hospitalized with active cases of COVID-19 and 295 active cases in total.

Several other nursing homes have experienced coronavirus outbreaks, especially in the past two months. The most serious was at the Beechtree Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which had more than 50 positive cases at the end of last month.
