Two foldable iPhone prototypes pass internal durability tests

Samsung and some other smartphone manufacturers have already recorded their names when it comes to introducing foldable smartphones. The updated Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is one of the best on the market at the moment and has very limited competition at this time. Apple, on the other hand, is lagging behind in the segment. However, it looks like Apple is researching a way to launch its own foldable iPhone. According to the latter, two foldable iPhone prototypes have passed internal durability tests.

Two foldable iPhone prototypes have passed the internal durability test, both have different mechanisms

Apple is said to have completed testing its own folding iPhones with a hinge mechanism. The two foldable iPhone prototypes passed durability tests at Foxconn’s factory in Shenzhen, China. The news was shared by a Taiwanese website Economic Daily News. The first foldable iPhone that was tested is a dual screen model. The model will have two separate monitors connected by a hinge in the middle. In early June 2020, Jon Prosser shared similar news and coined that the screens look “quite continuous and perfect.

Apparently, AirPods Max has a condensation problem that builds up inside Earcups when used for extended periods

We also saw a similar Apple patent that featured a device with two separate monitors attached by a hinge. Thereafter, the tested prototype looks quite similar to it. The panels can be placed together to create a single foldable device. Although it is not the foldable iPhone that we had in mind with a flexible panel, the prototype is referred to as a foldable iPhone.

The second foldable prototype of the iPhone features a shell design much like the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip or Lenovo’s Moto RAZR. Unlike the previous prototype, the iPhone clamshell prototype will feature a flexible OLED panel from Samsung. Older reports state that Apple ordered a large number of foldable screens from Samsung in early 2020.

Foldable iPhone prototype

At the moment, there is no word on which mechanism the hinges will use or whether the two foldable iPhone prototypes have the same mechanism. The prototypes being tested are not real smartphones with internals, but more shells with little or no internals. The prototypes are designed only to test the durability of the hinge system. Apple has not yet evaluated which one to proceed with. Note that Apple will only go ahead with one and put it into development. One of Jon Prosser’s most recent videos also stated that the two prototypes passed durability tests.

It would not be wrong to predict a foldable iPhone in the future, given the number of patents that Apple has registered for the technology. However, please note that there is no release date mentioned. However, the UDN has predicted that the foldable iPhone will not arrive until 2022 or 2023. We will share more details on the subject, so stop here. Also, would you like to see a foldable iPhone? Which prototype design do you prefer over the other? Let us know in the comments.
