Twitter suspends Republican MP Marjorie Taylor Greene

Twitter suspended Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., For 12 hours on Sunday, saying she repeatedly violated the company’s disinformation policy.

“The referenced account has been temporarily blocked for multiple violations of our civic integrity policy“said a Twitter spokesman.

Greene’s most recent posts included one that made false claims about widespread voter fraud in Georgia, both in the November election and the January 5 Senate election, as well as series of tweets who repeated more debunked claims and called Georgia’s election officials “idiots”.

Twitter restricted the promotion of these posts and placed them with warning labels. Greene’s account is still active, but she is unable to post.

Following the Capitol rebellion this month, Twitter has stepped up its crackdown on misleading and false information. Since the violence, Twitter has suspended tens of thousands of accounts linked to the QAnon conspiracy theory, in addition to indefinitely barring President Donald Trump.

Twitter’s civic integrity policy states that the company “will label or remove false or misleading information designed to undermine public confidence in an election or other civic process.”

“This includes, but is not limited to: disputed allegations that can undermine faith in the process itself, such as unverified information about electoral fraud, ballot tampering, vote counting or certification of election results; of a civic process that requires or can interfere in the implementation of the results of the process ”, affirm the company’s policies.

Greene, a freshman lawmaker who supports Trump’s efforts to overturn the election, has already expressed sympathy for QAnon, although he has since sought to distance himself. Greene, who has already promised to try to oust President-elect Joe Biden on his first day in office, has been criticized by Democrats and Republicans since the rebellion.

“She’s crazy about Cocoa Puffs,” wrote Senator Ben Sasse, R-Neb., In an article in The Atlantic, criticizing House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., For not denying his campaign.
