Twitter reactions to “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”

“A-one, a-two, a-you know what to do!”

Last Friday, Black Bottom by Ma Rainey started streaming on Netflix and conquered the world like a storm.

If you are not familiar with this spectacular film, let me speak to you. This is the film adaptation of August Wilson’s play of the same name, centered on Blues singer Ma Rainey (Viola Davis), her ambitious trumpeter Levee (Chadwick Boseman) and the exploratory nature of the music industry.

This movie was only broadcast for a weekend, but Twitter-verse spoke and they have a lot to say. The reactions are hilarious, moving and perfectly cover what we were all feeling while watching. Here are some of the best:

Things I’m going to start doing now that I’ve seen Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom: -Talk in the third person, always. -Say “I’m not studying you” instead of “I don’t care what you say”. -Refer to my rear as my “Big Black Bottom”. -Your power totally and completely. #MaRainey

#MaRainey So the real Ma Rainey was sweaty all the time? Why did they put Viola like that?
