Twitter permanently suspends MyPillow CEO for electoral misinformation

Twitter has permanently suspended the account of MyPillow chief Mike Lindell for repeated violations of the company’s policy on electoral disinformation, the social media company said Monday night.

Lindell, a devoted supporter of former President Donald Trump, financed post-election protest movements in an attempt to overturn President Joe Biden’s electoral victory.

Lindell used his personal Twitter account, which had nearly half a million followers before it was suspended, and the company’s account to spread unsubstantiated allegations of widespread electoral fraud in the presidential election.

Courts rejected such baseless claims, even when Trump and his supporters continued to falsely claim that there was electoral fraud.

Lindell has repeatedly violated the company’s civic integrity policy and has therefore been suspended, a Twitter spokesman said in an e-mailed statement. Twitter permanently suspended Trump from his platform earlier this month.

Founder and CEO of MyPillow, Lindell’s political comments and announcements are a regular presence in the conservative media.

A self-styled ex-cocaine addict and alcoholic who says he found sobriety through Christianity, Lindell helped sponsor a two-week tour on the Trump bus that ended in Washington on December 14 and spoke at five stops.

He told Reuters he did not help fund subsequent trips to promote the January 6 rally, which turned into rioting when Trump supporters invaded the Capitol.

The Capitol riots that left five dead have not changed his outlook on the election dispute, he said.

“I will never abandon fraud,” Lindell told Reuters.

MyPillow did not respond to a request from Reuters to comment on the Twitter suspension of Lindell’s account.
