Twitter banned Gateway Pundit founder Jim Hoft

Hoft joins a list of other right-wing accounts that have recently been banned for promoting falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election. The list includes, in particular, former President Donald Trump and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell, among others.

Twitter’s civic integrity policy states: “You may not use Twitter services for the purpose of manipulating or interfering with elections or other civic processes.” Gateway Pundit has been promoting falsehoods about the 2020 presidential election, both on Twitter and directly on its website, alleging electoral fraud and electoral irregularities. On Biden’s inauguration day, the site’s headline falsely claimed that the election had been “stolen” from Trump.

Hoft shared a post about his ban on the Gateway Pundit website on Saturday night. He pointed to an “ongoing investigation of the Detroit TCF Center”, continuing to spread a false narrative of “overnight deliveries of tens of thousands of votes”.

“We have a lot more information about this incident to report in the coming days,” said Hoft. He shared a screenshot of his Twitter account before he was banned. The tweet says, “Only one FYI – The fake news media and others challenged our TCF Center video report on Friday. That was a bad move. We have a lot more to come!”

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden was sworn in on January 20. There is no evidence that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, and the Trump administration and election officials considered the 2020 presidential election to be the “safest” election in the history of the United States. President Joe Biden won the popular vote by more than 7 million votes and won the Electoral College by 306 to 232.

The Pundit Gateway has shared false information since its inception. Notably, in 2018, the far-right website published a document that highlighted false allegations of sexual assault against special attorney Robert Mueller.

But just hours after the document was posted on the website, journalists and self-proclaimed Internet detectives linked the document to Surefire Intelligence, a company linked to the far-right Internet personality Jacob Wohl. Hoft removed the document from the website and published a note from the editor instead.

Gateway Pundit was also one of many defendants in Dominion’s defamation lawsuit. The list also included Trump’s campaign, Rudy Giuliani, Trump advisor Sidney Powell, conservative media One America News Network, right-wing website Gateway Pundit, and Colorado businessman and activist Joseph Oltmann, among others.
