Twerk women in police car, 2 policemen injured

MIAMI BEACH, Florida – It was a wild Friday night in South Beach. There were even women who jumped in a police car to cheat. The city is teeming with spring waves.

Miami Beach official Ernesto Rodriguez, a spokesman for the department, said two officers were injured while dealing with a large crowd near Eighth Street and Ocean Drive.

“While keeping a guy in custody, the police were forced to use pepper balls to disperse the disorderly members of the crowd and the police around,” said Rodriguez. “Several subjects were arrested. Two policemen were injured and were transported to the hospital ”.

More police are enforcing the rules on Ocean Drive, Collins and Washington avenues, from Thursday to 16th, including the Española Way. All sales of packaged drinks ceased from 8 pm in this area and from 10 pm in the rest of the city.

On Thursday night, police said some people in the crowd threw bottles at them on Collins Avenue and 11th Street. Rodriguez said police officers arrested three people during the confusion.

Prior to the incident on Friday, Miami Beach Mayor Dan Gelber said the risks of the coronavirus pandemic and increased crime by tourists forced the city to implement strict measures.

“At the moment, we have to have an expectation of conduct from the people who are visiting,” said Gelber. “If you can’t meet that expectation, go somewhere else.”

The city’s marketing campaign is reminding tourists that drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana in public are crimes that can be imprisoned. It is illegal to drive scooters in and out of vehicle traffic or on sidewalks.

On the beach, inflatable devices and tents, tables and similar structures are prohibited. Loud music, coolers, glass containers and styrofoam and plastic straws are also prohibited on the beach.

In the water, the Miami Beach Maritime Patrol Unit and the U.S. Coast Guard are looking for illegal charters and enforcing local, state and federal laws.

Police are asking the public to wear masks and practice social detachment to prevent coronavirus infections. The city is applying a curfew across Miami-Dade County from 12:00 pm to 6:00 am

“The virus is still here. The variant is still here and growing and more people are coming, so we can’t stop, ”said Gelber. “We cannot let our guard down. We must continue to be careful and respect the danger of this virus. “

Governor Ron DeSantis issued an order invalidating local government fines over rules related to the pandemic. Broward County Mayor Steven Geller said it would force local governments to resort to closing companies that violate capacity limits.
