TV series ‘National Treasure’ with Disney + Latin leadership Greenlighted; Mira Nair To Direct – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: The long gestation National treasure The TV series received the green light with an order for 10 episodes.

The project, by film producer Jerry Bruckheimer and original writers Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, is a reimagination of the National treasure franchise. Written by the Wibberleys and directed by Mira Nair (Vanity Fair), the series explores the timely issues of identity, community, historical authorship and patriotism, told from the point of view of Jess Morales, a 20-year-old DREAMer who, with her diverse group of friends, sets out on a lifetime adventure to discover his mysterious family history and recover a lost treasure.

Jess Morales is taking the torch from Benjamin Gates, the National treasure protagonist of the film played by Nicolas Cage.

The Wibberleys are executive producers for Jerry Bruckheimer Television. ABC Signature is the studio.

Senior level writers are expected to join the Wibberleys, whose TV credits include The best of LA. They worked with Bruckheimer on several films, including the first two National treasure movies and G force.

The development of National treasure the series has been on parallel tracks with the long shaky gestation of the Jon Turtletaub film franchise starring Cage, which brought Chris Bremner as a writer in January 2020.

Disney + has several upcoming series based on Disney films, including Turner & Hooch, The Mighty Ducks it is a Beautiful and the Beast spin off.
