ABC played in the new year with the best numbers of any broadcaster, as Dick Clark’s New Year’s Eve Rockin ‘ an average of 8.4 million viewers in total and a demo rating of 2.4 during prime time – exactly matching last year’s fast nationals.
NBC’s three-hour programming block came in second in the demo, with New Year’s Eve: 2020 Escape and NBC’s New Year’s Eve 2021 with an average of 4.4 thousand and 0.9.
CBS’s schedule of varied reruns, in fact, drew Thursday’s second-largest audience (an average of 4,500), while scoring 0.3 on the demo.
Fox’s New Year’s Toast and Roast, hosted by the ubiquitous Joel McHale and Ken Jeong, averaged 2 million and 0.6 – a sharp 25 percent drop from Steve Harvey’s performance last year as a NYE host.
