TV ratings: ‘Clarice’ got a decent start for CBS

MSNBC and CNN again lead the coverage of former President Trump’s second impeachment trial.

CBS Drama Clarice it opened with decent ratings on Thursday, giving the network a major update on the filler schedule that aired in the 22-hour period so far this season. The network’s comedies also scored high points in the season. On cable, MSNBC and CNN continued to lead coverage of former President Trump’s second impeachment trial.

Clarice – a serial sequence for The Silence of the Lambs, starring Rebecca Breeds as Clarice Starling – attracted 4 million viewers and 0.54 ratings among adults aged 18 to 49, leading the 10 am hour on both measures. This is a significant improvement over the same day numbers for Star Trek: Discovery, which CBS was broadcasting earlier this season. The CBS All Access series averaged just 1.7 million viewers and 0.2 in the 18- to 49-year-old demographic.

Young sheldon (7.59 million) and Mommy (5.45 million) reached the peak of the season in total viewers, while B Positive (5.17 million) and The unicorn (4.05 million) had their second largest audience of the season. All four programs reached the peak of the season in adults aged 18 to 49, and Young sheldon took prime time with a rating of 0.87.

In other parts of the transmission networks, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune (0.76 on 18-49, 5.57 million viewers) finished second in the main ad demo and in ABC’s total viewers. NBC’s Mister Perfect (0.46, 2.75 million) and Superstore (0.39, 1.93 million) fell slightly. The CW’s walker (0.21, 1.73 million) continued its solid run, and Fox’s programming of Hell’s Kitchen, call me Kat and Senior man standing it was quite stable.

On cable, MSNBC led the evening coverage of the impeachment trial with 3.13 million viewers, surpassing CNN’s 2.97 million. The latter had the advantage in the central news demonstration for adults aged 25 to 54, with about 665,000 viewers against 532,000 on MSNBC. Fox News was well off the beat, averaging 854,000 viewers and around 150,000 on the 25-54 demo. ABC and CBS combined for about 4 million viewers in the afternoon; NBC numbers were not available.

Fox News fared considerably better in prime time, with 2.94 million viewers, behind MSNBC’s 3.06 million. CNN averaged 2.16 million from 8 pm to 11 pm, but again led the 25-54 demo. An NBA game on TNT (76ers-Trail Blazers) topped the 18-49 ranking on cable TV with 0.42.
