One of Sony PlayStation most recognizable franchises will soon be exploding and exploding on your TV. Twisted metal, the chaotic science fiction demolition derby game, is being adapted for the small screen by the writers of Dead Pool films, and one of the writers of Cobra Kai.

The idea of ​​a Twisted metal show started filtering in 2019, and now the writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Dead Pool, Zombieland) associated with Michael Jonathan Smith (Cobra Kai) to resolve the case. Reese and Wernick will serve as executive producers along with Smith, who will write and present.

According Variety, who broke the news, the story follows “an outsider with an open mouth who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can deliver a mysterious package in a post-apocalyptic desert. With the help of a car thief on the trigger, he will face wild looters driving vehicles of destruction and other open road hazards, including a crazy clown … who drives a very familiar ice cream truck, who are fans of the game will be known as Sweet Tooth. ”Will Arnett’s Production company Electric Avenue is also on board.

Twisted metal debuted in 1995 along with the launch of the first PlayStation and has been a staple of the platform ever since. Although each game has its own variation in the story, the main gameplay is usually just a barrier-free demolition derby between all types of themed vehicles and driven by people with unique and sinister personalities. But instead of just colliding with each other, vehicles have weapons and bombs and all kinds of destructive capabilities. The last standing vehicle wins.

“We love Twisted Metal in all its twisted madness, ”Glenn Adilman, executive vice president of comedy development at Sony Pictures Television, told Variety. “Michael Jonathan Smith hit the ground running with a brilliant, fun, action-packed adaptation, and we are grateful for the support of Rhett, Paul, Will and our PlayStation friends.”

There is no word in the timeline for the show or any suggestion of a cast (Variety points out that while Arnett may express Sweet Tooth, there is still no deal), but with streaming consuming content like Truckasaurus, you imagine that will get somewhere sooner than later.
