Turner and Hidalgo explain who will have priority at the COVID-19 super vaccination site at NRG Park, how it will work

HOUSTON – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner explained that certain people will be given priority at NRG Park’s super vaccination site COVID-19 for the smooth launch on Tuesday and go into full operation on Wednesday.

Hidalgo explained that the authorities are looking for a “fair, efficient and equitable” vaccination using the vaccination waiting lists of Harris County and the city of Houston. With that in mind, Hidalgo and Turner said people in 10 CEPs will receive priority due to a number of factors, including, but not limited to, the number of cases in their area, as well as lack of access to health care, medical conditions underlying and other economic and social data associated with people in CEPs.

When these people are seen, she said the recipients of the vaccine will be removed from the broader list.

Turner explained that there will be four priorities on the waiting list.

  • Priority 1: people aged 65 and over who live in a high-risk CEP

  • Priority 2: people aged 65 and over

  • Priority 3: people aged 60 to 64 with underlying medical conditions living in a high-risk EPC

  • Priority 4: people between 60 and 64 years old with underlying medical conditions
