TSA hiring 6K airport security screening agents in anticipation of the summer trip

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects summer travel to increase.

On Friday, the agency announced that it will hire more than 6,000 transport security officers by the summer.

TSA expects more people to start traveling again in the summer, especially as the COVID-19 vaccines become more widely available.

“TSOs are a critical first-line defense to protect our country’s commercial air transport system,” said Melanie Harvey, executive assistant administrator for Security Operations at TSA, in a statement.

“Every day, our officers scan hundreds of thousands of airplane travelers, ensuring that they arrive at their destinations safely,” added Harvey. “We hope to track more travelers regularly in the summer months and will need additional officers to support our critical mission.”
