One of President Donald Trump’s top lawyers resigned from his law firm after participating in a phone call trying to overturn Georgia’s election results, Insider learned.

Cleta Mitchell wrote in a letter to her clients on Tuesday that she was resigning from renowned company Foley & Lardner LLP, according to a copy of the resignation letter obtained by Insider.

“As you probably know, there has been a massive pressure campaign in the last few days set up by leftist groups through social media and other media against me, my law firm and clients of the law firm, due to my personal involvement with the President Trump, his campaign and the White House are related to the November 3 general election in Georgia, “wrote Mitchell in a resignation letter obtained by Insider. “After discussions with my company’s management, I decided that it is in their interest that I leave the company.”

Mitchell participated in the call on Saturday between Trump and Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brian Raffensperger, where Trump appeared to threaten Raffensperger in an attempt to overturn Georgia’s election results.

Shortly after the call went public, Foley & Lardner LLP distanced itself from Mitchell and the president.

“We are aware of and concerned about Ms. Mitchell’s participation in the January 2 conference call and are working to understand her involvement more deeply,” the company wrote on Monday.

Mitchell did not immediately return a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.
