Trump’s defense secretary himself says it is “almost definitive” that he caused the riot on Capitol Hill

Former acting defense secretary Chris Miller is blaming ex-President Donald Trump for the Capitol rebellion, arguing that without him, it is “practically definitive” that would not have occurred.

Miller, who served under Trump and was in office on the day of the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill, spoke with Vice about the ex-president’s actions in relation to the riot. When asked whether Trump is responsible, Miller pointed to the ex-president’s speech before the riot, arguing that it clearly led to the onslaught.

“The question is, would anyone have marched on the Capitol and invaded the Capitol without the president’s speech?” Miller asked. “I think it’s almost definitive that it wouldn’t have happened.”

Miller added, however, that he is not sure whether Trump knew he was “enraging the crowd” to revolt on Capitol Hill when he delivered his speech in Washington, DC

Trump, during his pre-riot speech, asked supporters to march to the Capitol and “show strength”. He ended up being charged a second time, but acquitted by the Senate, for “inciting insurrection” for his actions, which were condemned by several officials who served under him. Former Defense Secretary James Mattis, for example, also blamed Trump for the riot, saying on January 6: “Today’s violent attack on our Capitol, an effort to subdue American democracy by dominance of the crowd, was fueled by Mr . Trump. “
