In an hour and a half speech closing the Conservative Political Action Conference on Sunday night, former President Donald Trump delivered a speech filled with many of the same false allegations of electoral fraud that he has repeated since losing the election to President Joe Biden in November.
His false claims that the election was “rigged” are what Democrats and many others said led to the deadly Capitol attack carried out by his supporters less than two months ago, which led to his second impeachment.
Trump, in his first speech since leaving office in January, also sought to reaffirm his hold on the Republican Party and portray the sense of unity – a message that was immediately blurred by the fact that he also repeatedly targeted members of his own party, including at one point listing all Republicans who supported the impeachment for their role in inciting the attack on the Capitol, to which the former president did not speak.
Trump also painted a terrible and terrible portrait of America under the Biden government during his Sunday speech.
He also continued to provoke a race in 2024 throughout the speech, rejected the idea of opening a third party, criticized Biden’s immigration policy in a typically severe and sometimes cruel manner, attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci and, in the end, said to their supporters the “only way” to help Republicans win is by donating to their Super PAC.
TRUMP PUSHING FALSE ELECTION CLAIMS
Throughout his speech, Trump dug into his electoral complaints, accusing Democrats of using the deadly pandemic COVID-19 to “cheat” the election, and repeatedly hammered the Supreme Court for not intervening and overturning the results.
“This election was rigged, and the Supreme Court and other courts did not want to do anything about it,” said Trump, prompting the crowd to shout out loud, “You won, you won,” to which Trump replied, “We did.”
“They rejected it,” continued Trump, attacking the High Court. “They should be ashamed of themselves for what they have done to our country. They did not have the courage or the courage to make the right decision. “
If some in the Republican Party expected the ex-president to pass 2020, Trump quickly made it clear that he plans to continue to fuel the false electoral claims in the future, pushing many of the same denied allegations that he pushed into the lead until the Capitol’s deadly attack in 6 of January.
TRUMP CONTINUES TEASE 2024 RUN
As he has been doing since he left office, Trump continued to provoke a race in 2024 – without explicitly announcing a race.
“Actually, as you know, they just lost the White House, but this is one of those things. But who knows, who knows? I can even decide to beat them a third time, okay? ”Trump said to applause and shouts from” USA “and” four more years “.
“With your help, we will retake the House, we will win the Senate, and then a Republican president will make a triumphant return to the White House,” Trump said at CPAC on Sunday. “And I wonder who it will be. I wonder who it will be. Who, who, who will it be, I wonder? “
BIDEN SLAMS AS PUTTING ‘LATEST AMERICA’
Trump also spoke out against Biden – a rather unprecedented move by a former president just over a month out of office – and the president’s administration on topics ranging from COVID-19 and school closings to energy and immigration policies .
“Joe Biden had the most disastrous first month of any president in modern history. This is true, ”he said. “The Biden government has already proven that they are anti-jobs, anti-family, anti-border, anti-energy, anti-women and anti-science. In just a month, we went from ‘America first’ to ‘America last’. “
The ex-president asked Biden to “open the schools and make them open now”, calling the closure “a scandal of the highest order and one of the most cowardly acts of any president in our lives”.
However, most schools have been closed to face-to-face learning for almost a year, when they closed the doors with Trump. In addition, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released guidelines two weeks ago on how to open schools safely.
He also attacked Dr. Anthony Fauci, now Biden’s top medical advisor at COVID-19, with whom Trump shared a difficult relationship in office.
“First, Fauci said that you don’t need masks, without masks, it’s not good. Then, suddenly – now he wants double masks, ”said Trump.
TRUMP TOUTS ‘TRUMPISM’
Speaking about the future of the Republican Party and differing from Democrats, Trump said his movement is “based on love for America and the belief that this is an exceptional nation blessed by God”.
He also said that he hears the term “Trumpism” a lot and defines it as “great deals” and “strong borders”.
“Many people ask, what is Trumpism? A new term being used more and more. I am hearing this term more and more. I didn’t make that up, ”Trump said with a smile. “But what that means is great business, great commercial business.”
“This means that there will be no riots on the streets. It means law enforcement. That means very strong protection for the Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms, ”he said, seven weeks after the deadly attack on the United States Capitol.
TRUMP REJECTS THE IDEA OF FORMING A NEW MATCH, ATTACKS MEMBERS WHO SUPPORT IMPEACHMENT
Trump said he was “not interested” in starting new parties, despite some news saying he was considering leaving the Republican Party.
He also asserted his place in the party’s leadership.
“We have the Republican Party,” said Trump to loud applause. “It will come together and be stronger than ever. I am not starting a new party. That was false news. No fake news. Wouldn’t it be brilliant? ‘Let’s start a new party, let’s split our vote so that you can never win.’ No, we are not interested in that. “
While simultaneously trying to get the Republican Party to be “united”, the ex-president also continued his revenge tour, listing the names of Republicans who voted for impeachment to boo the crowd.
“Democrats don’t have presenters like Mitt Romney, little Ben Sasse, Richard Burr, Bill Cassidy, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Pat Toomey. And in the House, Tom Rice, South Carolina, Adam Kinzinger, Dan Newhouse, Anthony Gonzalez – that’s another beauty – Fred Upton, Jamie Herrera Beutler, Peter Meyer, John Katko, David Valadao, and the warmaker, a person who loves to see our troops fighting: Liz Cheney. “
