President Trump plans to award New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick the Freedom Medal this week in an attempt to return to normal after the U.S. Capitol riots and request his second impeachment, according to a report on Sunday.
With just a few days left in the Oval Office, Trump will flex his presidential power at the last minute, honoring the Super Bowl winning genius – and other longtime supporters – with the greatest civilian tribute, according to Politico.com
Trump also plans to give the award to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) on Monday – the same day that Democrats are expected to present impeachment articles against him.
On Tuesday, Trump will visit a section of the U.S. border wall in Alamo, Texas, less than a week after five people were killed during the right-hand siege of the U.S. Capitol.
And on Thursday, he will give Belichick the Presidential Medal of Freedom, which historically honors people for “the United States’ national security or interests, world peace, culture or other significant public or private endeavors”.
Events have been going on for a long time, a Trump adviser told the vehicle.
In 2016, Trump boasted that Belichick wrote him a letter congratulating him for “a tremendous campaign”.
A Patriots representative did not immediately respond to Politico’s request for comment.
