Trump supports Sarah Huckabee Sanders for Arkansas governor

Former President Donald Trump endorsed Sarah Huckabee Sanders in her run for governor of Arkansas on Monday night, saying she “will always fight” for the people of the state and “will do what is right”.

Sanders served as Trump’s press secretary at the White House until June 2019. She joined the Fox News Channel as a paid contributor in September 2019. A Fox News Media spokesman confirmed on Sunday that his contribution contract with the network has ended.

“Sarah is strong at Borders, lasts in Crime and fully supports the Second Amendment and our great police,” Trump said in a statement.

“She loves our military and veterans – and her home state, Arkansas,” he continued. “Sarah will be a GREAT governor and she has my full and complete endorsement!”

Sanders announced in almost eight minutes video that it will defend those in the state for its “right to be free from socialism and tyranny”.

“With your support, I hope to be the first woman to lead our state as governor,” she continued.

She has been widely encouraged to run for Trump since leaving the White House in June 2019.

“She is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job!” Trump wrote when she was leaving the White House. “I hope she decides to run for the Arkansas government – she would be fantastic.”

Sanders, 38, was born on August 13, 1982, in Hope, Arkansas, the same city where former President Bill Clinton was born in 1946.

Daughter of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, Sanders would create a kind of Arkansas political dynasty if he won.

She seeks to replace current Republican Party governor Asa Hutchinson, who is restricted by term limits from running for reelection next year.
