Trump should have denied intelligence briefings, Schiff says

“With this simple act – which is the exclusive prerogative of the new president – Joe Biden can mitigate one aspect of the potential national security risk posed by ordinary Donald Trump,” wrote Gordon.

Gordon said that, especially since Trump intends to stay in politics, he “can be exceptionally vulnerable to bad actors with bad intentions”.

Former presidents typically receive routine intelligence briefings and access to confidential information after leaving office.

Schiff added that he thinks the US allies withheld information from the Trump administration because “they didn’t trust the president” to protect intelligence, which in turn “makes us less secure”.

However, Ron Klain, Biden’s new chief of staff, said the new government will first hear “our intelligence professionals” and their recommendations on intelligence sharing before making a decision on the matter.

“We will certainly seek a recommendation from the intelligence professionals of the Biden government” as soon as they are confirmed, Klain told CNN’s “State of the Union” on Sunday.
