President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would ease restrictions on travel to and from the United Kingdom, much of Europe, and Brazil intended to reduce the spread of the coronavirus – six days after leaving office. Trump planned the move, which would end the ban on foreign nationals coming to the country from the UK, Brazil and Europe, to take effect on January 26, but President-elect Joe Biden’s government said it would not lift the restrictions. “With the worsening of the pandemic and more contagious variants appearing around the world, it is no time to lift restrictions on international travel,” said Biden’s press secretary Jen Psaki. tweeted. “… In fact, we plan to strengthen public health measures in relation to international travel, in order to further mitigate the spread of COVID-19.” A new travel regulation is set to take effect on January 26 requiring incoming passengers to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test prior to flight, by order of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
