President Donald Trump is to present one of the country’s highest civilian honors to two of his most declared allies in Congress, California Rep. Devin Nunes and Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, while seeking to reward loyalists with just over two weeks of mandate. .
A White House official confirmed that Trump would present Nunes with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Monday. The former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee was an ardent supporter of Trump during investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 elections and the impeachment of the president in 2019 by the Democratic-led House.
The award, established by President John F. Kennedy, aims to recognize those who have made a “particularly meritorious contribution” to national security, world peace or “cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.”
