Trump gold statue at CPAC mocked online

Schiff sees challenges for the intelligence committee, a community in the shadow of Trump. McConnell says he would support Trump as the Republican Party nominee in 2024 MORE was revealed on Thursday at ts Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida, quickly provoking ridicule from social media users, many of whom compared it to the Old Testament account of the Golden Calf.

Video shown the statue being unrolled by the corridors at the annual conference on the right. The structure includes a golden Trump figure wearing a red jacket and tie, as well as American flag shorts and flip flops.

Several people stopped to pose with the statue, with one woman saying: “Incredible” and another commenting: “This is so cool”. Another person can be heard on the video starting to chant “four more years”.

Despite the compliments of the participants, social media users argued that the statue showed some conservatives’ unhealthy obsession with Trump, with a Twitter user jokingly writing: “I asked CPAC if they were afraid to offend God with a gold statue of Trump and they said ‘Trump is God.’ ”

Others, including the founder and director of the University of Virginia Policy Center, Larry Sabato, connected the statue to the book of Exodus.

In Old Testament history, the Golden Calf was worshiped by the Israelites in the absence of Moses when he ascended Mount Sinai. In the Bible, God punished those who worshiped the gold structure instead, destroying the calf and killing about 3,000 people.

Al Cardenas, former president of the American Conservative Union (ACU), tagged the organization in a Twitter post that shared the video on Friday morning, writing: “It’s time for this. Loving the Gold impeachment. ”

Trump is expected to speak at CPAC on Sunday, marking his first public appearance since leaving office and after being acquitted by the Senate in his second impeachment trial.

He is expected to go on the offensive against President Biden in his speech, as well as suggest – but not announce – a 2024 presidential candidacy

The conference will also serve as an opportunity for other aspiring GOP 2024 to appeal to party members.
