Trump criticizes Biden’s immigration policies: “There is nothing, there is no leadership”

Former President Donald Trump criticized Joe Biden’s immigration policies on Saturday in “Justice with Judge Jeanine”, saying the new president “is not showing leadership” during a crisis that could “destroy our country”.

DONALD TRUMP: Thousands and thousands of people are emerging now as we speak. And you will have millions of people entering our country. And it will destroy our country. I don’t know what they are doing. And they don’t know what they are doing. It is a very, very dangerous situation. I would love not to be involved. Someone should be doing this.

In the coming weeks, I think I will [to the border]. And I’m not sure I should really do that, Jeanine, other than the fact that I have so much respect for the Border Patrol and the ICE. And these people are dying for leadership. There’s nothing. There is no leadership. You have to see the misery, the children and, frankly, the people who entered the country when you look at what is going on, the dirt and the grime of these places. That’s why they are not letting the press in.

And frankly, if it were me, the press would be going crazy. It is a very dangerous situation. It is horrible for our country. They will destroy our country.

Since taking office, Biden has undone a number of Trump-era immigration policies, including suspending funding for the border wall and ending the policy of staying in Mexico.

The Trump administration set up and expanded the MPP during the 2019 migration crisis as part of a broader deal with Mexico, and hailed it as a key platform in its efforts to end the catch and release – by which migrants were released into the interior of the USA

Instead, the MPP keeps migrants in Mexico pending their asylum hearings. Proponents say the policy ended up with a key attraction factor that brought migrants to the north, while critics say it is cruel and puts migrants in danger by leaving them in Mexico.

Meanwhile, the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facilities have been operating well beyond capacity amid a worrying increase in people crossing the border. The agency announced that it found more than 100,000 migrants at the border in February, while the number of migrant children in custody has also increased dramatically.

The Biden government has refrained from calling the situation a “crisis”, but has admitted that the number of seizures at the border could peak in 20 years.
