Many fans were surprised when Eli Drake returned to WWE as LA Knight on February 14 TakeOver: Day of Vengeance Pre-show. But NXT chief Triple H has always known that the man who left the company’s development system in 2014 would return.
Some may not even know that Knight was at NXT for a few years as “Slate Randall”. This race ended thanks to some problems on both sides (during a 2019 chat in The Steve Austin ShowKnight discussed problems he had with ousted trainer Bill Demott, but he also admitted it was difficult to work with them at times), and he started to make a good impression on Impact and the NWA.
Now that the 38-year-old is back, Triple H thinks the sky could be the limit for LA Knight. Here’s what he said during his post-TakeOver media call last night:
“I don’t think there is a ceiling for anyone when they walk in the door. I kind of reevaluate everyone, or evaluate everyone while they’re walking in the door, my hope is that they all have the potential at one point in time to bring together everything they need to become as much a performer as they can be here.
“I’ve been a fan of him since he first came. And there are a number of reasons – and on his side and ours – that didn’t work that time, but I was always a fan of him, I was a fan of his work and his promotional skills and everything else along his journey. And I always thought that when the time was right, he would be great here. And it was the right time, and calls were made, and the interest was on both sides, and it just went from there. Smooth and easy.
“He wants to be in a place where he can have the biggest platform in the world, which is here, and I want to give it to him. So let’s run with him and see where we can go. There is no ceiling. “
