The Daily Show host Trevor Noah made a self-deprecating joke about his admiration for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo.
The presenter devoted part of his program on Monday to mocking the politician after several women filed allegations of sexual harassment. The news came at a time when Cuomo is also facing criticism for his manipulation of the coronavirus for allegedly underreporting deaths in nursing homes by up to 50% to avoid federal scrutiny.
Noah attacked Cuomo, who defended himself against accusations of harassment, noting that he sometimes tries to be “playful” with his employees.

“Guys, of course he was kidding. I mean, imagine your much older and politically powerful boss turning to you and saying, ‘When was the last time you were really hugged?’ this is super fun. Can’t you feel your skin crawl with joy? “he joked. “Here’s the deal, even if Cuomo thinks he’s just kidding, it’s still not okay. That’s what bosses never seem to understand. If you’re a boss, you should never flirt with your employees because, as a boss, you’re basically a dragon, right? No one is trying to hug a dragon. They are just trying to get out of the cave in one piece. “
Noah’s comments about the New York governor are a far cry from what he did last year, when he was among the many celebrities who praised Cuomo for his daily press conferences that covered how he was dealing with the pandemic when the state was the epicenter of the virus in 2020. During his monologue on Monday, he deftly winked at the fact that he once considered himself a “Cuomosexual”.

“And I’m going to tell you man, all those people who praised Cuomo so much last year, these people don’t really look so smart right now,” he said before looking out of the camera and demanding that someone “erase the tapes!”
“I mean, it must be so embarrassing, can you imagine if you’re one of those people?” he added, before demanding that the person outside the camera “burn” the tapes.
In fact, Noah previously spoke on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in April 2020, where he praised Cuomo as a leader amid the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

“It was genuinely very inspiring and invigorating to see a leader like Cuomo, Andrew Cuomo, the New York governor, who introduced himself and held his briefings in an apolitical way,” Noah said at the time. “He engaged them as a leader, he engaged them as a human being, he also took the blame for things he says’ look, I understand that I am doing certain things that people are going to hate me for and I am willing to make those decisions because I think it’s the best for human life first. We can always create business later. I think he’s informative, I think he’s informed. “

He added: “Everyone should be homosexual in that way. You should love a leader who involves people and remembers that he is serving people instead of the people who work for them. Any leader doing this in a crisis, I applaud them. “
