Trevor Bauer was ready to join the Mets after the merchandising fiasco: “I’m done”

If it weren’t for his agent, Trevor Bauer could have been a Met.

Rachel Luba did not persuade the NL Cy Young award winner to sign with the Dodgers, but told him to rethink his decision amid frustration with the emergence of goods on his website, suggesting that he would sign with the Mets.

“It’s over, it’s over,” Luba recalled Bauer telling her on the Barstool podcast “Starting 9”. “Call the Dodgers, it’s done. It will be the other team. ”

The “other team” was Mets. According to Luba, Bauer felt guilty because the goods were there.

“I can’t do that with a fan base,” he said. “The decision was made.”

Before letting the team know of his decision, Luba told him to take a walk and think more deeply, and not decide based on a mistake that was not his own.

When they spoke 10 minutes later, Bauer changed his mind. He would play for the Dodgers and sign a $ 102 million three-year deal, avoiding the potentially three-year offer of the $ 105 million Mets.

Joel Sherman of the Post reported last month that in the last 24 hours of Bauer’s free agency, the Mets believed they had reached an agreement with Bauer.
