Trent Williams is just a week away from becoming a free agent. Ideally, he hopes it doesn’t. He would like to stay with the Niners, who left for him in the last off-season during the draft. Coach Kyle Shanahan and 49ers would like to keep him in the squad. Fans would like to see Williams stay as well. The veteran striker quickly became a favorite of fans and the media.

Williams joined teammate Richard Sherman, also scheduled to become a free agent, in the Cris Collinsworth Podcast this week. Sherman predicts that Williams will be stopped in 2021.

“I put him in San Francisco for The Faithful,” said Sherman. “I think he stays in San Francisco. I think he makes you happy for another five (or) six years, takes your golden jacket and decides whether you want it in Washington or San Francisco.”

Of course, players are not introduced to the Professional Football Hall of Fame associated with a specific team. They are introduced as players and associated with all the teams they have played with during their professional career.

As for Sherman’s prediction, Williams didn’t seem to have a problem with that.

“This is not a bad decision, folks,” replied the Pro Bowl tackle eight times. “This is not a bad shot. You are all barking at the right tree.”

What about Sherman, who will almost certainly not return to the 49ers? What is the landing point that Williams predicts for his defensive teammate?

“I’m not going to lie, man. Rich is one of my favorite teammates I’ve ever had,” said Williams. “… I know that any locker room that will get it will be blessed. I would like to stay in the locker room with him because I know what he adds to a team.

“I think it’s going to be a team that wins now, that I feel like we’re on a team that wins now. Rico, he’s so smart. He can do it anywhere. He can fit in any locker room. Any crowd. So, I really I don’t see any limitations on it. “

Williams hesitated to name potential landing sites, but ended up discarding some options.

“I am still hopeful that he will return to any locker room I am in,” said Williams. “… I can see [the Kansas City Chiefs], going there and helping that defensive backfield. … I would like to see him somewhere where the weather is good, have a good salary, taxes are not hitting him.

“[The Las Vegas Raiders] sounds like a good team. I think the Indianapolis Colts. AFC has many good places there. As long as he doesn’t end up back in Seattle. … I definitely don’t want to see you twice a year, if I were in San Francisco. ”
