Transfers from former Wisconsin QB Jack Coan to Notre Dame

It was announced on December 20 that the University of Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan was leaving the program and entering the Transfer Portal. Today, Irish Illustrated and 247Sports found that the 6-3 of 220 pounds was being transferred to the University of Notre Dame.

During the 2020 football season, Coan did not appear in any Badgers games. He broke his foot during the camp before the season and was Graham Mertz who became the proprietor and never looked back. The future is bright for the Wisconsin quarterback and the most valuable former player of the 2020 All-American Bowl, with him completing 118 of 193 passes for 1,238 yards, 9 touchdowns and 5 interceptions in seven games this season. Wisconsin ended the season with a 4-3 record this year.

As a junior, Coan was really impressive and took the Badgers to the Rose Bowl. Wisconsin ended the season with a 10-4 record behind Coan, who completed 69% of his passes for 2,727 yards and 18 touchdowns for just 5 interceptions. Coan was then nominated as a candidate for the pre-season Maxwell Award and Manning Award Watch List before this season, before his foot injury forced him to miss the year.

Coan joins a quarterback room at Notre Dame that includes junior Brendon Clark, second year Drew Pyne and freshmen Tyler Buchner and Ron Powlus III. The group will battle in the position of coach of defenders and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

On February 10, 2016, after watching many talented quarterbacks compete in the All-American Bowl Underclassmen Combine in San Antonio, I put together an article about the Six Quarterbacks that I would offer at Notre Dame in 2017 and Coan made the list.

“The four-star quarterback from West Sayville (NY) is another one who was in San Antonio in the US Army All-American Underclassmen Combine. The 6-3, 190 pounds can make all the shots. He showed the ability to throw the ball deep with the touch the corner route accurately and put a ton of zip in the short and intermediate pitches. His footwork needs a little tweaking, but he has the tools to be a very successful quarterback in the next Coan pitched for 3,431 yards and 40 touchdowns as a junior, which helped him get offers from Boston College, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Rutgers and others.

Coan arrived in Wisconsin as a three-star recruit in the 2017 class, ranking as the number 469 player overall on the 247Sports Composite. In Notre Dame Lacrosse’s unique commitment, Coan chose to play football in college and chose the Badgers over offers from Boston College, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern and many others.
