Gamecocks exploited the thousands of players who left their old home in search of a new one. Of the eight players that Beamer and his coaching staff signed, only two – Wide receiver from Georgia Tech Ahmarean Brown and Nebraska defensive tackle Jahkeem Green – they were from the Power 5 conferences. The rest came from the Group of 5 schools or from a lower level.
Beamer was not concerned at the time that the players’ skills would not translate into the best college football conference. And after seeing many of them on campus in the past few months, he is no longer concerned about them now.
“There are a lot of mistakes that happen in recruiting,” said Beamer on Thursday in an individual interview with TheBigSpur.com.

“There are a lot of mistakes that happen in the NFL in the NFL Draft when it comes to first-round choices that have never been translated. I think with a lot of these guys that we added to our program, there are guys that were unable to recruit for a variety of reasons. “
Beamer pointed out that the reasons are numerous that players are not seen during the college’s recruitment process. It may be because of an injury, it may be because a player makes a growth leap or sees himself in the weight room properly when he arrives at college and makes a physical leap.
It is his job to assess which players on the transfer portal can play at the Power 5 level, and he believes they have found some of the right players.
“It wasn’t like we didn’t have a lot of people from Power 5 interested in moving here. Yes, yes, ”said Beamer. “We also spent a lot of time evaluating these guys, evaluating their character, the type of people they are, the type of students they are, the type of football players they are and where we were from the point of view of needs. In the end, I’m very excited about the guys we added to the program from the transfer portal and recruiting for high school as well. “
Gamecocks hit a pair of defensive transfer defenders, a quarterback and a wide receiver combo, a linebacker and an edge defender. Five of the six players – all but the defensive back Carlins Platel – are already on campus.
“We have a lot of guys who certainly have chips on their shoulders, and that’s important,” said Beamer. “You have to be hungry and have that advantage over you to prove that people are wrong. But you also have to be a good football player. I’m excited, because I believe that all these guys are. “
Beamer says he “saw a lot” that tells him that the talent of these players will translate well into the Southeast Conference. Tip defender Jordan Strachan and linebacker Debo Williams rise from the Group of 5 level in Division I. Platel came to Carolina from Assumption University, a Division II institution.
“You watch them in the weight room and the way they are working – it’s not like they came here and were suddenly defeated because they came from a Group of 5 school or an FCS school,” said Beamer. “They started to run, they fit perfectly and I’m looking forward to seeing what they do in the field of practice.”
