Jimmy Garoppolo may not play for the 49ers much longer.
Patriots insider Greg Bedard recently said in his podcast that the Patriots are focused on reacquiring Jimmy Garoppolo from the 49ers this season. Which is good news for the 49ers, who seem to be dying to change Garoppolo.
Here is Bedard’s full quote:
“As far as I can tell by talking to people this week, Jimmy Garoppolo is still a long way from his Plan A. The ideal situation for the Patriots this season is Jimmy G coming back. And, of course, it all depends on the 49ers doing something. don’t believe anything John Lynch says. Lynch basically has no power there. It’s Kyle Shanahan’s show from top to bottom. And Shanahan keeps things tightly closed. He doesn’t show his cards. writhing in the wind.
“I think the 49ers believe they won’t do anything until they do it better, but this Teddy Bridgewater thing is worth watching, or at least I know that other teams are watching. Because if they negotiate for Bridgewater, their base salary will be for season is $ 17 million – that’s not reserve money. It’s starting money. And he makes $ 20 million a year after that. And believe me when I say this: Shanahan is the type of guy who thinks his scheme attacker can win just about any type of defender. That’s what he believes.
“And so, if they’re looking at Bridgewater, I find that very interesting. If you’re a Patriots fan, you have to hope that the 49ers do something. And I really can’t imagine them betting everything on Deshaun Watson. But that Bridgewater thing is interesting. I bet Shanahan looks at him and says, “This is a guy I can win with. Maybe he’ll throw a ball deeper than Garoppolo. Maybe he’ll make better decisions. Look, I think Jimmy is much better than Bridgewater, but in that scheme, perhaps Bridgewater fits better.
“Maybe they’re looking for more ammunition. Maybe they decide to trade Garoppolo with the Patriots for a second so they have ammunition to go up on the project. Don’t rule out moves to get more ammunition to possibly get Trey Lance or Mac Jones or whoever. And maybe that’s why you have Teddy, maybe he’s a gap guy, Alex Smith’s role for Patrick Mahomes and everything 49ers do.
