TRACKING: More snow this weekend

Tonight: The clouds slowly rise and this will prevent temperatures from getting as cold as on Thursday morning. Tonight’s lows drop to a digit above zero. The wind is weak from the southeast.

Friday: We ended the work week with generally cloudy skies and temperatures reaching over 20 degrees, almost normal for this time of year. The wind picks up before the weekend storm. The winds are from the southeast at 10-20 mph.

Friday night: Not much has changed. The sky remains cloudy with a windy southeast wind. Temperatures drop a few degrees around 20 degrees.

Saturday: The morning hours will be dry. Anytime after noon the precipitation will begin. Northern counties will have only snow. Southern counties, perhaps south of Cedar Rapids, will experience a rain / snow mix initially and then switch to snow overnight. The roads will be slippery at night. It is very windy with east bursts around 30 or 35 mph. High temperatures reach 30 degrees.

Saturday night: The snow continues through the night. This is when most accumulations will occur. Temperatures are in their 20s and the wind begins to shift north as the low moves east. Windy conditions will cause gusts of snow and reduced visibility.

Domigo: The snow is light in the morning and decreases at midday. Snow totals will range from 2 to 7 “in eastern Iowa. This snow will get a little heavier. More like wet snow and more difficult to clean. High temperatures are close to 30 with a northwest wind.
