Total War: Warhammer 3 revealed, and Cathay confirmed, in an extremely metallic trailer

Yes, it was Total War: Warhammer III. Last night we reported how Creative Assembly was doing something with a series of animated shorts. It seemed a little overwhelming that it was just a new DLC, and more community research pointed to clues that suggested something bigger was coming. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long to find out what.

We know this has been going on for some time, but Creative Assembly now formally announced the third entry to its popular series of strategy games set in the iconic Warhammer Fantasy universe.

The races confirmed for the new game so far include fan favorites Kislev, the four Chaos factions (Khorne, Tzeentch, Slaanesh and Nurgle) and in a surprising move, Cathay. We are confident that there is more to come, but Cathay is certainly an interesting choice. Essentially the Chinese version of Warhammer Fantasy, they hardly paid attention to them on the old table line, which means the opportunity is ripe for CA to fill in the gaps. If only the studio had experience making strategy games based in China …

The scenarios mentioned in the ad material include ‘Realms of Chaos’ and the ‘mysterious East Lands’. We imagine that Kislev will also have some fun in the snow. But enough about that, what you really want to see is this extremely metallic reveal trailer:

The plot summary for the new game reads: “Embarking on a new big campaign, you will be tasked with saving or exploiting the power of a dying god.” Although many have speculated that this could be a reference to the infamous ‘End Times’ event that started the formal closing of the Warhammer Fantasy line (to be replaced by Age of Sigmar), Creative Assembly stated that this is not what is happening, visa:

“Total War: Warhammer III takes place around Karl Franz’s reign. Our main source is Warhammer Fantasy Battles 8th Edition, although we have and will continue to use previous editions for inspiration. “

Despite everything, it looks like Warhammer III is creating a shock of epic proportions and we can’t wait to find out more. In the meantime, our Editor Richard spent a lot of time analyzing the trailer above.

Total War: Warhammer III is due for release in 2021 on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, and is available for pre-order now. While you wait, Total Warhammer 2 is enjoying a 15% discount on Fanatical.
