Toronto Blue Jays acquired New York Mets title holder Steven Matz for three candidates, the teams announced Wednesday night.
The Mets are hiring right-handed pitchers Sean Reid-Foley, Yennsy Diáz and Josh Winckowski.
Matz, a 29-year-old southpaw, signed a $ 5.2 million contract with Mets in December.
That deal came after he had the poorest of his six seasons, going from 0 to 5 with an ERA of 9.68, while earning $ 1,851,852 in prorated payment of a $ 5 million salary. He was removed from rotation after starting 0-4 with an ERA of 9.00 in five matches, then made three relief appearances along with a local match.
Matz is 31-41 years old with an ERA of 4.35 with over 107 career starts and five substitute appearances.
The Jays had a busy off-season, notably the addition of outfielder George Springer to a $ 150 million contract for six years.
Earlier this week, infielder Marcus Semien reached an agreement on a $ 18 million one-year contract, a source familiar with the deal said to Passan.
Toronto also agreed to one-year contracts with right-handers Kirby Yates ($ 5.5 million) and Tyler Chatwood ($ 3 million) and rehired southpaw Robbie Ray with a $ 8 million one-year contract.
