“For those of you who are injured, I hear you.”
Even in 2021, some people still haven’t received the memo that making a April Fool’s joke about pregnancy is not funny – and is considered insensitive to those struggling with fertility.
Although the internet as a whole agreed to make a moratorium on the 2020 holiday, it came back in full force this year – and Tori Spelling was the big name that was criticized for playing the prank that nobody wants to see anymore.
On Thursday, she posted a photo showing her cradling her bare belly (above) with the caption “No. 6.” Her comments were inundated with famous friends wishing her congratulations … and with fans 1.) wondering if the ad was real and 2.) telling her that it was not appropriate if it wasn’t.

“I really hope you are not using pregnancy as a April Fool’s joke, considering that there are so many women out there who would like to have only one child,” wrote a response he liked more than 2,000 times. “You have been blessed with 5, please have compassion and empathy. There is nothing to play with!”
“I really hope it is true, in this case congratulations! If this is an April Fool’s joke, EXTREMELY bad taste, ”said another popular response. “I really hope this is not a April Fool’s joke, it would be cruel to all mothers who have lost babies or are having trouble getting pregnant.”
After 24 hours had passed, Spelling finally addressed Friday’s reaction on Instagram – confirming that she wasn’t pregnant and explaining why she did it in the first place.

“Every week, magazines and the media ask if I am pregnant. To clarify, I’m not, ”she began. “The fact is, after my fifth baby, my body did not recover as it did before. That was when the constant questions of ‘one more’ pregnancy started.”
“Unless you’re in the public eye, it’s hard to understand what it’s like to be ashamed of your body so publicly,” she continued. “I feel like I have to constantly defend my body when, instead, I should honor it for the miracle of life that it has given me five times.”
To her critics, she wrote, “I know that pregnancy is an extreme blessing. And I would never knowingly mock you for losing a child or not being able to carry you. I aborted myself.”
As for the reason, she said her post was “simply turn the tables on the press once.” She added: “They constantly create wild and often painful stories about me, my body and my family.”
“For those of you who are hurt, I hear you. I love you. I receive your stories and I will do my best to be there to support you, ”she concluded. “Please accept this as a virtual hug for my entire community.”
Other stars who have been criticized in the past after joking about being pregnant on April Fool’s Day include Justin Bieber, Shawn Johnson, Catherine Lowe, Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Claudia Jordan.
