Former offensive NFL striker Tony Jones, who started in the Broncos in the 1990s, died on Friday at age 54, according to the team.
The cause of death was not provided.
Jones, known as “T-Bone”, has played 13 seasons with the Browns, Ravens and Broncos.
An uninvited free agent from West Carolina, he was a success story as Denver’s starting right in Super Bowl XXXII and as the starting left in Super Bowl XXXIII.
“We lost a great man,” wrote former teammate Rod Smith on Twitter. “It just happened to be a hell of a playa ball. We love you and miss you. One of the best Broncos tackles. The best dresser of ALL TIME! “
After an early exit from the playoffs to end the 1996 season, the Broncos acquired Jones from the Ravens and he would help them win the Super Bowl for the next two years. In the first Super Bowl, he held Reggie White in the Hall of Fame without a sack and limited him to just one tackle. He was nominated for the Broncos Top 100 team in 2019.
“Terribly sad news today, Tony was a great teammate and a wonderful man,” tweeted former Broncos receiver Ed McCaffrey of Jones. “Always dressed to the nines and always smiling. Lisa and I send love and peace to your family. “
