Tommy Hilfiger dumps $ 45 million at Greenwich mansion

Almost everyone seems to be moving to Florida – including Tommy Hilfiger, who traded his $ 45 million Greenwich mansion for warmer pastures.

The American clothing magnate, 69, and his wife, former model Dee Ocleppo, 54, finally closed the sale – brought about exclusively by The Post in November – of their 13,344 square-foot mansion. The 22-acre property on 30 John St., which they have owned since 2010, has six bedrooms, seven bathrooms and three half baths.

“The house doesn’t look very big because it is cozy and warm. They used almost every room. He welcomes you, ”agent Janet Milligan of Sotheby’s International Realty Greenwich Brokerage told the Post.

The house has hand-painted fabric walls, carved woodwork, wide plank and limestone floors, fabric wall coverings, wine cellar and tasting room. An 18th century French fireplace is among six fireplaces in total, and the master bedroom has two bathrooms, two changing rooms and an office, according to Realtor.com.

The entrance has a carved wooden staircase. The formal dining room has wood paneling and the large kitchen has exposed wooden beams and a breakfast room – in addition, the house has a home theater.

“[Ocleppo] has Turkish heritage, so the Turkish-inspired decor is really special. She transformed the cinema room into a really beautiful and cozy room, where you just want to watch movies all day. It has a candy machine, popcorn, sofas and chairs of various levels, ”said Milligan.

Outdoors, the house has fountains, a koi pond, a swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court, a rose garden, a boxwood garden, a topiary garden and a lawn overlooking the strait. from Long Island. The house has a four-car garage and a two-bedroom guest house with its own two-car garage, according to Realtor.com. They even had a greenhouse, which once housed orchids, and a chicken coop with three roosters and at least a dozen chickens, Milligan told the Post.

“As you get closer, you go up a hill and you can’t see the house. As you drive to the garage, it is perched there like a pearl, ”said Milligan. “It is the highest point in Greenwich and, on a clear day, you can see New York City.”

This is the eighth house that the couple has renovated and sold in the last 35 years. They bought the house for $ 31.37 million in 2010 and reportedly spent millions on renovating the house, including replacing the terracotta roof tiles with exact custom-made replicas of the originals. They hired Andre Tchelistcheff Architects, as well as interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and also Cindy Rinfret, from Rinfret, Ltd., for the renovations, according to Town & Country.

“Originally, there was an indoor pool, and they made it the most spectacular family room. You would never know it wasn’t there before, it was done so well, ”said Milligan, who added that the new family room has French doors, a bar, a sitting area, a television and a pool table.

His Greenwich home was built in 1939 and designed by Greville Rickard for real estate investor Charles Vincent Paterno. The house was later owned by art collector Dr. Joseph Hirshhorn, whose collection is now at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, DC, according to Realtor.com.

Douglas Elliman’s Sally Slater represented anonymous buyers who bought the property through an LLC.

“They are not showy people. They are just trying to start their life in Greenwich, instead of where they were, ”Slater told the Real Deal.

Hilfiger and Ocleppo will move to Palm Beach, Florida, for favorable tax policies and other unidentified reasons; the couple is selling their home in Miami and wants to buy a new home in Florida, they told the Wall Street Journal in September. Hilfiger also sold its Plaza Hotel penthouse in 2019 for $ 33.25 million and a Palm Beach mansion for $ 35 million in 2017.
