Tom Herman’s wife on South Carolina coach rumor

Texas football coach Tom Herman had a slight recent connection to South Carolina Gamecocks coach earlier this month.

There was an interesting sequence of recent events taking place between the media, around the SEC scene, and fourth-year football coach Tom Herman. Admitting that Herman was probably not the biggest fan of the media lately, due to the way his situation was during Urban Meyer’s rumored period.

An editor at Charleston Post and Courier Gene Sapakoff had a conversation that popped up on Paul Finebaum’s timeline on Twitter this week. He reportedly declared that “I will not say that he (Herman) begged for the job, but my sources say he was quite interested”.

This was in reference to a connection he discussed between Herman and the job of head coach for the South Carolina Gamecocks. South Carolina had his head coach job open in the fall, after they parted ways with ex-Texas defensive coordinator (and ex-fifth year coach) Will Muschamp.

Shortly after this discussion started on “The Paul Finebaum Show” earlier this week, Tom’s wife Michelle Herman ended this manager rumor in connection with South Carolina. She responded on her Twitter timeline this afternoon December 15 that “this is false” in the context of that South Carolina coaching rumor mentioned.

Indeed, the only concrete evidence of a connection between the Longhorns ‘coach, Herman and South Carolina, is part of that report by Sapakoff, where he stated that the Gamecocks’ AD contacted him about the job. But South Carolina ended up hiring former Oklahoma Sooners assistant Shane Beamer as the head coach.

It was recently announced by Texas athletic director Chris del Conte that the football program would retain Herman as its head coach in 2021. This came after the search for conductors, reinforcements, administration, etc. from Texas to former Ohio State and Florida head coach Meyer finished.

The Longhorns ended the regular season of 2020, under the direction of Herman, with a record of 6-3 (5-3 Big 12) after their December 5 victory over the Kansas State Wildcats by a score of 69-31. Texas now awaits its destination for the postseason once the conference championship weekend ends.
