Tom Cotton says Trump has a ‘big role’ in the future of the GOP, Joe Biden trying to ‘unravel’ Trump’s achievements

Orlando, Florida – Senator Tom Cotton said on Friday that former President Donald Trump has a “big role” in the future of the Republican Party and warned that President Biden is trying to “unravel” Trump’s achievements.

Cotton, in an interview with Fox News, did not say whether he plans to run for president in 2024, as many have speculated. He said he intends instead to oppose Biden’s actions as president and to try to help turn Congress from red to blue in 2022.

“I’m going to focus on interrupting Joe Biden’s agenda and getting the House and Senate back for now,” said Cotton.

Cotton, recognizing that Trump will still have an important role in the Republican Party, said that one of his biggest contributions so far has been to move the Republican Party to a more populist party.

“One thing President Trump has done in the past five years has been kind of redefining the views of many Republican politicians and helping them understand the views of Republican voters,” said Cotton. “For most Americans, certainly most Republicans, it’s just common sense that America should come first and that American workers should come first.”

He added: “He helped to redefine the Republican agenda. We are now putting Americans first. We are facing China. We are defending our commercial interests to ensure that we are not just delivering our prosperity. And Joe Biden is trying to unravel all of that. President Trump doesn’t want to. I don’t want to. And no Republican who aspires to party leadership should want that, too. “

Cotton, when asked about his place in the party, said that “my immediate role is to try to stop Joe Biden’s open borders, big government, big taxes and big spending schedule.”

But, added Cotton, the Republican Party has a serious opportunity to become more than a minority opposition party during the next elections.

“We are much stronger leaving the Trump presidency than we were without any of the Bush presidencies,” said Cotton. We have an equally divided Senate and we have the largest minority in the House of Representatives that we have had in 80 years. So we have a lot of influence to try to stop Joe Biden’s agenda. And I think that, as we stop and expose, it will become increasingly unpopular … It will help us win back the House and the Senate next year. “
