Senator Tom Cotton, R-Ark., Called Disney on Monday for his decision to place content warnings about episodes of “The Muppet Show” on the Disney + streaming service after the company’s previous work in the controversial Chinese province from Xinjiang.
“The Muppet Show”, which first aired in 1976, was released on Disney + Friday, with “offensive content” notices before selected episodes.
“This program includes negative representations and / or mistreatment of people or cultures,” says the warning. “These stereotypes were wrong at the time and are wrong now. Instead of removing this content, we want to recognize its harmful impact, learn from it and start conversations to create a more inclusive future together.”
In “Fox & Friends”, Senator Cotton called the decision “a total Mickey Mouse move” after the company’s controversial choice to film the live-action remake “Mulan” in China’s Xinjiang province, where Beijing is accused of human rights abuses against Muslim Uighur people.
“Last year, they thanked an agency of the Chinese Communist Party responsible for the concentration and genocide camps in Xinjiang province, China, for helping them film,” said Cotton.
“It is outrageous and terrible.”
Cotton also referred to comments made by Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2019 when he said that filming in Georgia would be “very difficult” due to a controversial abortion bill.

“The Georgia legislature wanted to protect the unborn, but [Disney] is perfectly willing to work with the Chinese Communists who are responsible for the genocide against their own people, “said Cotton.” It’s really terrible. “
