Tom Brady’s two TD passes to Gronk and one to Antonio Brown put the buccaneers in the 2021 Super Bowl

TAMPA, Florida – Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady took tight end Rob Gronkowski out of a year-long retirement and convinced the Bucs to bet on wide receiver Antonio Brown, who had been out of football for a year.

Those two players were great for Brady in the first half of the Super Bowl LV on Sunday, with Gronkowski taking two touchdowns and Brown a third to give the Bucs a 21-6 lead at halftime.

Brown’s 1-yard touchdown came on an angled route working against defender Tyrann Mathieu 10 seconds from the end of the break.

In the first quarter, Brady joined Gronk for his 13th post-season touchdown in an 8-yard pass, beating Joe Montana and Jerry Rice in most post-season touchdowns by a QB-receiver combo in NFL history. It was also the first time in Brady’s 10 Super Bowls that he scored a touchdown in the first quarter.

In the play, which gave the Bucs a 7-3 lead, Gronkowski ran to the back of the formation and to the plan. It was Gronkowski’s fourth career receiving a touchdown in the Super Bowl, breaking a five-player draw to the second biggest in Super Bowl history.

He is now only behind Rice, who has eight.

Brady and Gronk would replicate that magic in the second half. The Bucs lined up for a 40-yard field goal after stagnating in Kansas City territory, but Antonio Hamilton of the Chiefs jumped in the opposite direction, giving the Bucs a first descent.

On the next play, Brady found Gronkowski for a 17-yard touchdown pass, with Gronk pretending he was running into the corner of the end zone before entering and losing L’Jarius Sneed, extending the Bucs lead to 14-3.
