We all know the story of Tom Brady – forgotten in the 2000 NFL Draft coming out of the University of Michigan, falling in the sixth round and choosing the number 199. Twenty-one years and seven Super Bowl rings later, he still remembers where he came from.
The Bleacher Report revealed a video of Brady being interviewed by NFL Films in 2002, after he won his first Super Bowl with the Patriots. Steve Sabol read his preliminary report, which looks a little silly in retrospect.
“Tom Brady: poor structure – it may be necessary – thin, he does not have great physical stature and strength and is easily knocked over,” said the report.
“Wow. It kind of gets me excited,” said Brady at the time.
On Sunday night, Brady tweeted the videosaying, “It still gets me excited”.
Brady won his seventh Super Bowl title this year at age 43 with the Buccaneers, earning MVP honors in the process. He stated that he plans to play until he is at least 45 years old, and that “physical stature” does not appear to be a problem as he continues to fight against Father Tempo.
“When people tell you, hey, you can’t do this, you can’t do this, and you keep getting over it, you build that confidence in yourself and that belief in yourself that, even when no one else believes in you, I’m still going to do that, because I don’t give a damn what you say, ”said Brady in the 2002 video.
A quote that would still apply today, nineteen years later.
