How we got here
Bob Kravitz, columnist from Indiana: On the day that the Hoosiers were despised by the CFP committee in conjunction with the Big Ten, Allen took the right path, saying that it was neither the time nor the place to share his true feelings about the IU bowl situation.
Apparently, that time is now.
IU was and continues to be upset over two issues: They are upset that the Big Ten changed its minimum game eligibility rules to put Ohio State in the conference title game instead of IU. And they’re upset that the league chose Northwestern with two defeats instead of IU for the Citrus Bowl.
What Allen’s comments mean
Kravitz: Perhaps IU realized that no one would notice the uniform change. Regardless, it’s now a storyline for Saturday’s Outback Bowl.
Yes, it is stingy.
Yes, it’s incredible.
Was it an intentional demonstration of disrespect for the Big Ten? Of course it was, regardless of Allen’s statement to the contrary. The coach and his team have been concerned about this since the announcement of the bowl. IU lost just one game throughout the year, a seven-point loss to Ohio State and the Hoosiers believed they deserved better from the committee and the conference. Can you blame them?
