To recap who left, who remains

When the South Carolina defense enters the field for the opening of the 2021 season, at least five 2020 high school players will not be in uniform.

Entering the season, it was expected to be the cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Israel Mukuamu would move on to the NFL and they did. They chose to leave in the last three games of the season after the dismissal of the head coach Will Muschamp in mid-November.

Shortly after their announcements, defensive junior colleagues back RJ Roderick he chose not to participate in competitions against Missouri, Georgia and Kentucky, but the option to return to the program is available to him. Roderick started all six games in which he was in uniform this year.

On December 14, freshman security redshirt Shilo Sanders entered the transfer portal and a day later announced that Jackson State was his destination. His father, Deion Sanders, is JSU’s new head coach. Sanders started four of the nine games he played for Gamecocks in 2020.

The fourth and fifth exits from the secondary room took place on Wednesday afternoon, when the second year Jammie Robinson – a ten-game holder who played both safety and nickel and was second in defense with 74 tackles – and second-year corner John Dixon – an eight-game starter who tied at the head of the team with two interceptions – entered the transfer portal.
