Tina TurnerThe new HBO documentary has encouraged fans who are incredulous that she is not yet at Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist … but there is something they can do about it.
Since “Tina” debuted at the end of March – and even before – many of the fans of the legendary singer have expressed indignation that she is only on RRHOF as a duo with Ike Turner … her abusive and manipulative ex-husband and musical partner.
Tina and Ike were sworn in in 1991, but she was solo in 1984, so that further infuriated people … because it means she was eligible for HOF induction for years, but only entered the ballot this year.
To summarize the story – the fans are angry and have been posting on Twitter last week, Greg Harris, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum tells us … if fans want to help Tina’s chances, they can – with the vote of RRHOF fans.
The way it works – fans can vote for the top 5 among the 2021 Class nominees, which along with Tina includes Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige, Foo Fighters, Carole King and Anger at the machine. The most voted among the 5 will win the official “fan vote”.
Now, the RRHOF vote is notoriously enigmatic and secretive, but we have been informed that the fan vote will be one of 1,000 votes from artists, historians, journalists and members of the music industry.
This may not seem like much, but if Tina’s fervent fans vote for her … you have to think it will inspire others to follow suit.
Furthermore, it helps that she is beyond deserving.
The fan vote lasts until May 7, so if you are among those angry TTs that you are not … now is your chance to let your voice be heard.
BTW – if Tina is introduced, she will only be the second female artist to enter the HOF twice … following Stevie Nicks in 2019.
