Tiger Woods moved to Cedars-Sinai to continue his recovery after the accident

LOS ANGELES – Tiger Woods was transferred to another hospital on Thursday to continue his care and recovery after a rollover accident left the golfer with serious leg injuries.

Woods, 45, was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center “to continue orthopedic treatment and recovery,” said Dr. Anish Mahajan, interim CEO at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, in a tweeted statement.

Woods underwent emergency surgery at Harbor-UCLA shortly after the car accident Tuesday morning in southwestern Los Angeles County. Doctors inserted a rod into his right leg and pins and screws were used to stabilize the ankle and foot injuries.

Firefighters used an ax and a crowbar to wrench Woods out of the vehicle, where he was being held down because the steering wheel had been placed on his lap.

“He was essentially immobilized,” said Captain Jeane Barrett of the Los Angeles County fire department. He was able to get his legs out from under the wheel, “but he was still tangled, he couldn’t get out alone,” she said.

Woods’ representatives thanked the first respondents on Tuesday night, as well as everyone else for their “overwhelming support and messages during this difficult period”.

Mahajan said that out of respect for Woods’ privacy, the hospital would not provide further information about his care.

“On behalf of our team, it was an honor to provide orthopedic trauma care to one of the greatest athletes of our generation,” he said.
