Tiger Woods moved to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for long-term care

LOS ANGELES – Tiger Woods was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center employees announced on Thursday.

Woods was at Harbor-UCLA Medical, a level 1 trauma center, after a single vehicle accident on Tuesday that required extensive surgery on his right leg.

“[Woods] has been transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to continue orthopedic treatment and recovery, ”says the statement by Dr. Anish Mahajan, Harbor-UCLA interim CEO / CMO. “On behalf of our team, it was an honor to provide orthopedic care to one of the greatest athletes of our generation.”

Dr. John Torres, medical correspondent for NBC News, joined “Golf Today” to provide information about Tiger’s surgery and possible recovery.

Woods underwent surgery for “significant” injuries to his right leg, including fractures in the upper and lower portions of the tibia and fibula. The surgeries included the insertion of a shaft in the tibia, as well as pins and screws in the ankle.

According to several experts, Woods will probably need at least a week to recover before returning home to South Florida.
